Signs to report
- The ABS light stays on after startup or appears intermittently while driving.
- Anti-lock activation occurs unexpectedly at low speed on an otherwise normal stop.
What can cause these symptoms
Wheel-speed signals, damaged wiring, sensor mounting conditions, tone rings, supply voltage, or control-unit faults can create ABS concerns. A wheel-speed code does not automatically mean the sensor itself is defective. Differences in tire size or a damaged bearing assembly may also influence the information the system receives.
How diagnosis is narrowed down
Relevant fault information and live wheel-speed behavior can guide inspection of the affected circuit and mechanical surroundings. Wiring integrity and power supply are considered before condemning expensive components. Findings should distinguish a signal problem from a hydraulic or control issue and identify any remaining testing needs.
Responding to warning lights
Note whether the ABS warning appears alone or with a red brake warning, low fluid, or altered pedal feel. If stopping performance changes or a red brake warning accompanies a serious symptom, park safely and seek professional help. Do not assume a warning is harmless because the vehicle still stops.
