Symptoms and findings
- A confirmed CV-joint problem causes clicking or a load-related vibration.
- Inspection reveals a bent shaft, damaged splines, or multiple compromised axle components.
Confirm the cause of vibration
Tires, mounts, wheel bearings, and suspension parts can mimic an axle complaint. A torn boot alone does not automatically require a whole axle if the joint remains serviceable. Diagnosis should explain why an assembly replacement is appropriate for the condition and available repair options.
Typical replacement checks
The correct assembly is identified before removal. Relevant hub and drivetrain connections are handled using the specified procedures, and disturbed seals are assessed. Proper axle seating and required fastener tightening are important to the bearing and drivetrain interfaces. Final checks look for fluid leakage, abnormal noise, and persistence of the original vibration.
Before the visit
Report whether the concern appears during turning, acceleration, or steady cruising, and mention recent wheel or suspension work. If an axle is visibly damaged or the vehicle develops severe vibration or unpredictable movement, stop safely and arrange assistance instead of continuing to drive.
