When cleaning may be discussed
- Testing or inspection suggests deposit-related delivery concerns.
- A vehicle-specific maintenance recommendation or documented condition supports an appropriate treatment.
Know the limits
Electrical failure, damaged seals, excessive internal wear, or a leaking injector may require repair or replacement instead. Low fuel pressure and ignition problems can also resemble dirty injectors. Direct-injection intake-valve deposits are a separate issue because fuel does not normally wash those valve surfaces in the same way as port injection.
How service is selected
The complaint, injector type, and previous findings are reviewed before choosing a compatible procedure. The intended treatment area and expected benefit should be explained clearly. Where testing is appropriate, results can help establish whether injector performance changed. A general fuel additive should not be represented as proof that a specific injector fault has been corrected.
Schedule with the symptoms in mind
Tell D&S which products have already been used and whether the concern is a misfire, hesitation, or maintenance question. Ask why cleaning is recommended instead of further diagnosis or replacement. A severe misfire or suspected fuel leak needs safety assessment rather than repeated cleaning attempts.
