Reasons for structural inspection
- Collision or impact damage affects the subframe or its mounting areas.
- Significant corrosion, cracked structure, or damaged attachment points are found during inspection.
Evaluate beyond the visible part
A damaged subframe can coexist with bent control arms, steering components, or body mounting damage. Replacing the subframe alone may not restore correct geometry if the surrounding structure is compromised. Assessment should establish what can be supported safely and which related parts need attention.
What replacement can involve
The exact assembly and required hardware are identified. Engine, transmission, steering, or suspension components may need temporary support or removal depending on the design. Mounting locations and alignment requirements guide installation. Wheel geometry, steering operation, and any applicable setup procedures are checked as part of the final repair plan.
Arrange appropriate transport
Do not continue driving when structural damage or severe corrosion makes component support uncertain. Tell D&S about impacts, previous collision repairs, and any alignment measurements. Ask how the body mounting points were assessed and which additional repairs or alignment steps are included before treating replacement as a complete solution.
