Reasons to request assessment
- A tire loses air or a puncturing object is found in the tread.
- A warning or repeated low pressure suggests leakage that needs to be located.
Some damage rules out repair
Sidewall or shoulder damage, structural injury, and damage from running severely underinflated can make repair unsuitable. A valve or wheel leak may also be responsible instead of a tread puncture. Temporary sealants or external plugs are not equivalent to a full internal assessment and an appropriate permanent repair.
What professional evaluation involves
The leak source is identified and the tire is removed from the wheel when needed for internal inspection. Eligibility is assessed against applicable tire-repair criteria and the tire manufacturer's requirements. If repair is suitable, the method addresses the injury appropriately. The assembly then needs sealing, inflation, and balancing considerations before installation.
Safe next steps
Stop safely for rapid pressure loss, a bulge, exposed cord, or severe vibration. Do not keep driving on a flat tire to reach the shop. Tell D&S how long the tire was driven low and whether a temporary product was used, because that history affects the assessment.
